Narratives

So I thought I might comment a little bit on what the narratives are for each of my characters.  Mind you, I don't really "RP" -- I've never been into that and I doubt I ever will be.  But even though I save my in-character interaction for the tabletop, I have to have a story behind each character in order for me to remain invested in leveling him.

And here are some of them:

1) Paladin/DK -- originally my paladin was the "same character" as one of my mages -- see below.  I abandoned that narrative quite a while ago, I think, probably about the same time I started another mage and made him my "main mage."  (He has since been abandoned, but I never did get my old-main-mage to 85, so...who knows.)

Anyway, I've been referring to the paladin as an angel/naaru in human form, or in a human body.  For those who know me, the reasons for this should be apparent; however, recently I had the inspiration to make a "same character/dark side" DK.  I had it in mind to have the paladin go off to Pandaria, and wash up on the shores missing his armor and his memory -- he's lost his grace, which sacrificed itself to save him, in the process entering its void state.

The void state manifested as a DK, who remained in the old world.  It is a creature of hunger, not reason.  It wanders the old world and Outland gathering strength as a creature of the Nether.  Meanwhile the paladin, remembering only fragments of his life before and during the naaru's occupation, journeys through Pandaria to find out who he is.

In the end, the dark naaru must be cleansed and restored, for its existence is bound to its host's.

2) (Old) mage and rogue -- these are actually characters from the novel that I'm writing, transported via dimensional travel to Azeroth.  I'm not going to go into too much detail here as none of it really pertains to WoW ^_^

3) Monk -- formerly a citizen of Theramore, he lost his entire family in the Horde attack.  After spending some time consumed with rage, hate, and liquor, he encountered a wandering Pandaren monk who sought to guide him back to mental and spiritual health and balance.  He still drinks more than a man should, but he is in the process of learning to cope with his anger and rage and restoring harmony to his spirit.

4) Hunter -- A marine of Kul Tiras, he was dispatched as part of a diplomatic envoy to Gilneas in the time before the Cataclysm.  While traveling through Gilneas, the envoy was attacked and most of its members killed or run off.  The hunter gained the worgen curse and lost his mind for a while, before being restored by the kal'dorei to his sanity.  His time in the wilds gave him an affinity for his more bestial cousins, serving only to sharpen his already-formidable skills.  He now serves Genn Greymane.

5) Warlock -- My little gnome lock is a malconvoker, that being a "good guy/white hat" who summons demons and uses them to fight other demons.  That's about all there is to him -- he's demo through-and-through, and I can't see making him any of the other specs owing to his background.

6) Other mage -- This would be my gnome mage, the one who supplanted my "main mage" and has spent the last two years languishing on a server on which I no longer play.  He doesn't really have much of a story; he was a transplant of a tabletop character I was enamored with at the time.  He was also my first 85, if I remember right.  He's also the only one of my toons I've managed to finish Uldum with.

7) My druid -- He's the only one of my characters who doesn't really have a story.  He's worgen because I thought worgen were cool at the time, a position I have since recanted from.  I'd race change him to nelf but I frankly don't see myself playing him any more than necessary to get him to 90 (since he's my herbing alt).

My "original" druid, the one who I race-changed to Horde and never took out of Orgrimmar, had a backstory involving losing an eye and preferring to stay in animal form, but it's been so long since I kept him in my headspace that I don't remember the story anymore.

That's about it.  I've had other ideas but they've never really lasted.  Most of the time, when I'm making a character, I'm drawing on external influences that aren't really a part of the Warcraft canon.  But since they're mostly for my benefit, I don't have any particular problem with that.

I'm completely full-up on character slots for my main realm.  So I guess if I get any other characters I'm just dying to play, I'll have to start over somewhere new.

  1. Out of curiosity, what was it that made you decide worgen weren't as cool anymore?

The only character I have with a background anywhere near this detailed is little Fi! I used to roleplay her with guildfolk, but WoW doesn't really lend itself well to the thing!
