That being said, I have checked out the new features a bit. This has mostly entailed completing the Iron Horde intro quest and beating up on a few things in old instances to make sure I still could. So, my take? Well.
The Good
They didn't change anything fundamental about my monk -- he still plays the same, and he even seems to hit a lot harder relative to how it used to be. Which is nice, it was a change I was looking for, to be able to hurt things better soloing as a tank.
Toy Box, reagent bank, free Void Storage tab -- all good.
Apparently kitty druids get to turn into werecats at level 100. Sign me up.
I guess they decided not to make Readiness a thing, as there's this "Versatility" stat instead. I like Versatility, it's ... I mean it gives you x mitigation and 2x extra damage, how would you not want to stack that? Especially as a tank?
The Bad
Well, Gift of the Ox procs a lot less often, since it's based on Multistrike rather than whatever it used to be based on. That kinda sucks.
In general, I'm feeling a bit more fragile than I used to be. I haven't looked at the numbers on my mitigation, and I don't really remember what they were before anyway, but it doesn't seem like they've changed all that much -- I was pretty maxed out for DPS before as it was.
Headband-style headgear doesn't wrap around the head properly -- there's now a gap that looks really, really stupid. This is annoying, since most of my characters' "looks" involve headbands.
And on the subject of headgear, clipping is just as bad as ever. Worse, in some cases.
I'm not super happy about losing both disarm and disable. I mean I never used disarm, so that's kinda whatever, but disable was indeed part of a few different strategies of mine. Oh well.
No more reforging. I knew it was coming but I'm sad to see it go.
As usual, there's a whole pile of broken addons. This isn't such a big deal, as the vast majority of mine actually appear to be working. Still, I get something like 25 errors every time I log in. Patches kill me every single time, what with the over 100 addons I have installed.
The Indifferent
New faces, meh. There's still only like eight basic faces with no ability to customize. And the human running gait looks even more awkward and unnatural now than it used to.
I'm probably the only player in the world who has zero interest in how detailed his character's face looks. I mean why should I care? I'm looking at the back of his head 99% of the time, and usually zoomed way out at that. For me, the view is completely unchanged.
I dunno, call me a killjoy but I don't see as the models were something that really needed to be redone. Waste of resources, if you ask me. And the nelfs still look like Goofy, just as gangly as ever.
The Inexplicable
They took the monk's charge away. That's so weird. Monks in general are supposed to be the mobility tanks, right? So why would you take away their charge? Just feels awkward.
Weren't we supposed to be getting an Heirloom tab or something? Did that not end up making it into the game?
Anyway, that's where I'm at after a couple hours playing my main. I'm tankful that all my goodies are still in the right places, even if I've lost a few things I wasn't particularly attached to. Now it's time to give it a go on my hunter -- I hear SV got worked over pretty badly.
Cheerio.
