Five things I love about being a monk

So it looks like I'm getting my wish.  By which I mean Blizzard made an announcement that tank damage is being normalized at 75% of DPS damage during Blizzcon, and I went off running my mouth about wanting exactly that before I read that they'd made the announcement.  Which, hey, makes me look a little stupid, but whatever, I'm getting my wish :D

A while back I wrote a wishlist for WoW's next expansion.  That list has been largely made obsolete by the expansion announcement -- obviously we're not going to see multiclassing, or class quests, or tanks for every class, but I guess my submarine is still on the table ;)  That being said, now that the announcements have been made, I'm finding myself really hoping Blizzard doesn't end up tinkering too much with the monk class.  Specifically, there are five things that I'm hoping don't change, and they are as follows.

1. Crackling Jade Lightning

I don't expect that this is going to go anywhere per se -- as far as I know it's something that's actually important to Mistweavers.  I just hope that the other two specs get to keep it, because while it isn't part of my regular rotation, it is something I use reasonably often.  And I just love the aesthetic.

I don't know what Force Lightning has to do with martial arts, but I ain't complaining.

So please, Blizzard, let me continue to pretend to be a Sith lord.  Don't steal this or make it Mistweaver-exclusive.

2. Touch of Death

This is something else I want to stay exactly as it is.  Again, it's not something that adds a tremendous amount of group utility, but being able to one-shot an on-level normal (or obsolete raid boss) every three minutes is something that just never gets old.

Historically, Blizzard hasn't interfered too much with utility powers, so I'm hoping this one will get left alone.

3. Breath of Fire

I never used to like the whole "exhaling special attack" thing.  Whenever the villains on DBZ did it I never thought it was cool, and I always felt the Dragonfire Adept class in 3.5 was just a cheap knockoff of the Warlock.  (Which it is, but I digress.)  And Dhalsim?  His firebreathing schtick never did it for me when I could be throwing energy from my hands.

But something about the way the monk does it...

I knew those Cindergut Peppers would be trouble...

Look at that.  How can you not love how awesome that is?  And the implication, that the monk is so drunk that his very breath is flammable ... can't beat that. ;)

4. The Pacing

There are two sides to this coin.  The first is the monk's one-second GCD.  I've found that I much prefer playing classes with the shorter base GCD, just because I get to hit buttons more often.  I like hitting buttons.  And this dovetails into the other part: the Brewmaster's rotation, wherein there are always buttons to push.  Thanks to Tiger Palm being resource-free, there's never a time when I don't have something to do.  And that's awesome.

My wish, therefore, is this: leave the Brewmaster rotation mostly alone.  Let us keep our 1-second GCD, and design the class in such a way that haste continues to be like candy.  Should be pretty easy design work, since the class is already there. ;)  (I kid, I kid, balance.)

5. Zen Flight

I know, it's a little bit cheating, but I really hope that Blizzard keeps Zen Flight exactly as it is.  Being able to herb, skin, mine, interact with objects, and (especially) fish from a hovering platform -- I just love it.  It feels a little like cheating and I guess that appeals to me XD

Fishing, drinking, and zen apparently go together pretty well.

I don't mind that the ability isn't full flight speed, or that it can't be used in combat.  Honestly if you could fly at full speed using it, it'd be too good.  There's no need to improve it, Blizzard, just ... leave it just as it is.  Please. :)

So there's five things I love about being a monk, and five things that I hope don't change about the monk class.  I mean to be honest I'd be perfectly happy taking my monk just as he is right now to Draenor, but I also know that Blizzard loves to tinker.  So, Blizzard, please, this dedicated monk player is begging you: change what you have to, just leave these five things alone.

Thank you.
